Sanctity of Life Sunday
Fully Human: Made in the Image of God
Main Text: Genesis 1:26-31
The Theological Foundation
Every human life has inherent and equal value, dignity, and worth because every person is created in God’s image and likeness.
The Problem: Dehumanization
Dehumanization is the act of viewing or treating a person as less than fully human – by denying, diminishing, or ignoring the fact that they are made in the image of God and therefore possess inherent dignity and worth.
Groups We Often Dehumanize
- The Unborn
- People with Disabilities
- The Foreigner/Immigrant
- The Orphan
- The Prisoner
- The Elderly and Infirm
What groups would you add this list?
The Goal: A Consistent Pro-Life Ethic (from Womb to Tomb)
Application
- We need just laws that protect every human life.
- We need to do for one what we wish we could do for all.
