Our Broken World #5
Scripture: Romans 3:9–3:20
Why does Paul spend 3 chapters making sure we understand sin?
Because a worldview without sin changes the gospel message.
What other problems are people trying to fix with the gospel?
First, low self-esteem.
Second, sickness and poverty.
Third, bad genes or poor nurturing.
Paul summarizes his case about SIN in Romans 3:9-20.
The Central Truth: every person is held captive by the power of sin.
The Proof: the whole testimony of Scripture (as it is written)
- Our hearts seek everything except God (Romans 3:10-12)
- Our mouths speak destructive words (Roman 3:13-14)
- Our feet take us straight into conflict (Romans 3:15-17)
- Our eyes don’t see the true God (Romans 3:18)
The Point: we have no excuse to make and no merit to plead.
Why is this so important to believe?
