The Heart of Hospitality

  • _______________ we invite
  • _______________ we invite

The Point of the Parable

What does Jesus want us to do in response to His story?

  • Personally _________________ His invitation.
  • _______________ in inviting even when some say no.
  • Invite those who are often _____________________.

Personal Study Guide

Sermon Response:

  • What was your primary take-away from the sermon on Sunday? How did the Lord challenge you to apply the truth that you heard?

Study the Word:

  • Read Luke 14:1-11. The first eleven verses of this chapter provide the context for our sermon text from Sunday. What do you learn from these verses that helps you make sense of the parable of the banquet?
  • Read Luke 14:12-24. How would you evaluate the excuses that the guests make for not attending the banquet? What would you say to someone today who uses these excuses for not being in church?

Personal Application:

  • Who has God put on your heart to invite to church once we move into the new building? When you invite someone to church, what do actually say? Write down a few sentences that you would use in an actual conversation:
  • Jesus tells us to invite people into our homes (and churches) who are not able to give anything back to us. As you think about the people in your life, who would that be? Who do you typically overlook that God wants you to see and show hospitality to?
